Do You Seek the Power Of Focus?
The human race has made so many advances. We have come so far. That being said, we are seriously behind on our personal development. Our minds have become a mess of information.
I am sure you have all felt the information overload, the confusion and despair of such. I have.
Our minds belong to us. They are our own to mold, harness and use. Our minds are our most precious tool, companion and lesson, but we are not our thoughts.
It is more difficult today, than any other time in our history, to self-direct ourselves with the power of focus. In fact, if you google “how to be focused”, this is what is suggested.
"If you need help staying focused, try one of these tips."
Get rid of distractions. First things first: You need to eliminate distractions. ...
Coffee in small doses. ...
Practice the Pomodoro technique. ...
Put a lock on social media. ...
Fuel your body. ...
Get enough sleep. ...
Set a SMART goal. ...
Be more mindful.”
Some are helpful suggestions, but how are you going to get rid of distractions? Why not focus at all times, anytime, under any circumstance? Hmm. I wonder if the author of these tips has kids or pets, or lives in a society.
How can we keep fixing the boat when we have no idea who the captain of the boat is?
Seems ridiculous, and quite tiring actually.
What really moves the mind? What is the source? Who is the Capitan of our boat?
The answer is: The will
The will is the strongest force we have within us. The inexplicable force that we have unlimited access to. The mind is a tool, a means to an end. A trained mind hears the will.
Theron Dumont wrote about this in a “Power of Concentration”:
“Many persons read good books, but say they do not get much good out of them. They do not realize that all any book or any lesson course can do is to awaken them to their possibilities; to stimulate them to use their will power. You may teach a person from now until doom's day, but that person will only know what he learns himself. "You can lead him to the fountain, but you can't make him drink."
So, if our amazing will is our captain, the mind is our tool and our reality is our battlefield, how can these forces relate and make an effective ship to navigate our wonderful existence? How can we use the power of focus, truly?
Instead of pouring more information into your scattered mind about focusing, shush for a moment.
Go to the source, your will.
If we shift our attention from the mind to our will first, many things happen. A deep, innate part of yourself has- finally- the ability to be seen and heard. It’s gentle calls, once ignored, are given light and the simplicity is breathtaking.
Focus, concentration, and effective use of our faculties are only truly effective when we know and love our will, the captain of ourselves. When we seek this power of self, focus comes in addition to, or as a means to an end objective. For example, if you get to a river and need to cross, a canoe is a means to cross. Once you have crossed, you are not going to carry the canoe to the summit of the mountain, right? You leave it there and carry on.
Self-Mastery is a life-long quest. The first step is recognizing and communicating; listening to your will (free will). The training of your body and mind will follow organically if we start here.
So, the question should be: Do you have free will?
